The Downtown District Sign is a community
project led by the La Mesa Village Association in partnership with the La Mesa
Park & Recreation Foundation (Fiscal Sponsor) to build a new focal point in
downtown La Mesa. The sign will be located in the heart of the Village at La
Mesa Blvd. and Palm Ave. and consist of two columns adorned with beautiful
brass plaques and 1,512 hand-painted 4"x4” tiles funded through community
donations.
The Tile Painting Phase of the project was completed on July 31, 2023. Note, any unpainted tiles will be painted by local art students at the discretion of the student artist with a La Mesa theme.
New Update (1.18.24): We know everyone is excited and anxious to see the new sign in our downtown Village – as are we! As with any large construction project, there are many behind the scenes details that take time to complete including technical drawings and engineering specifications. With those now complete, we will be able to move forward swiftly and seamlessly to the next phase of the project which includes permits and completing an RFQ to hire a contractor! Once we complete this step, we’ll have more information to share on the construction timeline and groundbreaking.
